CONGENITAL ANOMALIES OF EYE

Description

This comprehensive course on Congenital Anomalies of the Eye is designed for optometrists, ophthalmic assistants, ophthalmology residents, and eye-care students who want a strong foundation in developmental disorders of the visual system.
Through detailed lectures, diagrams, clinical photos, and case-based learning, you will understand the embryology, types, etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, and management of major congenital anomalies affecting the eyelids, lacrimal system, globe, cornea, iris, lens, retina, and optic nerve.

The course focuses on easy explanation, clinical importance, and exam-oriented points, making it ideal for DHA/HAAD/MOH, Optometrist Exams, and Ophthalmic Officer Exams.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, learners will be able to:

1. Describe the embryology of the eye and critical periods of development.

2. Identify major congenital anomalies including:

  • Anophthalmos, Microphthalmos

  • Coloboma

  • Congenital Cataract

  • Congenital Glaucoma

  • Persistent Fetal Vasculature (PFV)

  • Aniridia, Corectopia

  • Cryptophthalmos

  • Congenital Ptosis

  • Dacryocystocele, Nasolacrimal anomalies

  • Retinal dysplasia

  • Optic nerve anomalies (ON hypoplasia, morning glory disc, coloboma)

3. Explain etiological factors: genetic, environmental, teratogenic, chromosomal.

4. Recognize clinical signs using slit-lamp, ophthalmoscopy, and imaging.

5. Formulate appropriate management plans including optical, surgical, and supportive care.

6. Understand complications and long-term prognosis.
